The Best Things in my Brain, September 2025
I’ve always been a person who loves to learn and find new things and share them with others, but these things don’t always warrant a full blog or social media post. So I thought I’d play around with offering a short and sweet post on the best things I learned, read, heard, or saw recently. This will run once a month on a week I’m not scheduled to post a longer blog.
This past month has been all about getting my photo shoot done for the new Craft Magic collection in the shop (don’t forget it’s on sale through Sept 15!). But in digging out some older sweaters to serve as background material I’ve been reminded of some good case studies for the FOlio from my earliest sweater knitting days, so look for those in the coming months.
Best Thing in my Brain, Craft Edition:
The Very Serious Crafts Podcast is back!! I was so delighted to see this pop up in my podcast app again. It’s also amusing to me that when they ended season 5, I had just started working as a tech editor as a side gig, and well, here we are. Mollie and Haley are now joined by new third host Hannah and they chat about a wide range of crafts, some which they do professionally and some just for fun.
This is now the third* favorite podcast of mine that has returned to new episodes this year after some time away, which is just justifying my habit of never clearing inactive podcasts out of my podcast app.
*-The other two, Answer Me This and How Was Your Week, are not crafting podcasts, but are funny talky podcasts that are great for *while* you’re crafting.
Best Thing in my Brain, Non-Craft Edition:
I’ve been going down a YouTube rabbit hole of covers and mash ups lately and came across this delightful millennial music mash up from the London City Voices (as in music from the years 1996-2004, not the generation). Quite a few of these songs date back to my own choir days and certainly my early “driving alone and singing to the radio in my car” days. There were only a few songs I couldn’t place, which might be because they were bigger in the UK than the US. For a mash up it’s long (15 minutes), but if you need a pleasant nostalgia hit, this is a fun one.
