FOlio Fest Day 3: Fidra

Read other entries in this series here as they are available.

Pattern name: Fidra (buy the pattern alone or a full kit here)

Designer: Gudrun Johnston

Yarn: Berroco Mercado in Rosa leftover from another project (I bought mine from Woolyn but they currently have it at another fave NYC shop, Knitty City)

My Favorite Thing about This Hat: This was my New Year’s Eve Cast On last year (not at midnight because I was running the NYC New Year’s Eve Run in Central Park, but that’s another story) and while I thought the bulky weight of this yarn would mean it was nice and warm for the cold Chicago winters we were about to move to, it has become my go-to hat for “little bit chilly” weather.  It does the job of keeping your ears and forehead warm while not making you too hot on those high 40s/low 50s days.

What I’d Change about This Hat: The pattern has a pom pom. I didn’t make one because I am not in general a pom pom girl, but I think the hat needs one.  I might see if I have enough remaining yarn in stash to add one.

Would I Knit it Again? Absolutely – it’s a really quick knit so would make a great gift.

This Week’s Charity: The Instituto del Progreso Latino, an organization which has long been providing educational and support services to Latino immigrants in Chicago, has been at the forefront of the community response to the influx of migrants in Chicago since September 2022. In addition to their efforts to aid the recent migrants to Chicago, The Instituto provides services to all Latino migrants and their families in the Chicago area, including English, citizenship, and Adult Education courses, Legal Aid to help immigrants on the path to citizenship, as well as offering programs for school-age children (including operating two charter high schools and a College Bridge program).  You can make a general donation to the Instituto in service of all its programs by clicking here.
